We have liked going to B&B’s for years and have also enjoyed hosting ourselves. We had hopes of running our own B&B someday. However, we dreamed of having a special place that could be used by people in ministry who need a break. Both of us served in ministry positions that wore us out, so we understood the need to step away to regroup, recover, and get renewed. 

 

When employment circumstances changed in 2018, we began to look for property with more intent, and God provided the opportunity and the funding to purchase this place north of Big Rapids on the Muskegon River in 2021. Here our guest can experience the quiet and solitude needed on retreat. We named it Rivendell after the place of rest from the battle for the Fellowship of The Ring in Tolkien’s adventure stories. 

 

We were able to complete a renovation in the basement for an apartment right away after our move, but God slowed us down and showed us our need to build the guest house with the help of a caring community. Then He began to put together the team of people needed to create the special haven we are offering you beginning in the fall of 2024. 

 

The Haven at Rivendell Place has scripture written into its structure, prayer covering its purpose, and sabbath rest built into its rhythm. It is our hope that you experience God’s presence closely as you spend time here, intentionally seeking him.
